FILM MAKER PROFILES
 

SENAIN KHESHGI, Director/Producer

Senain Kheshgi is a Pakistani-American journalist and filmmaker that has produced, written and directed projects for numerous networks including, CNN, ABC NEWS, PBS, Discovery, and the BBC. Senain co-produced her first feature documentary, THE FIRST YEAR with Academy Award winning director, Davis Guggenheim (Oscar winner for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) which was broadcast on PBS and went on to be awarded the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award. She has also produced and assisted on projects with Shari Berman and Robert Pulcini (directors of AMERICAN SPLENDOR and HOLLYWOOD FOREVER) as well as with Sophie Fiennes (sister of Ralph and Joseph F! iennes and director of the BBC film, HOOVER STREET REVIVAL). Senain was a Sundance Institute Fellow, where she attended the Documentary Editing, Composer and Producing Labs (2006) and a Tribeca All Access Fellow (2005). She is a recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation/ Renew Media's Media Arts Fellowship and was recently awarded the prestigious Asia 21 Fellowship from The Asia Society, which aims to help prepare young leaders for the challenges and responsibilities of global citizenship. Senain recently served on the selection committee for the International Documentary Association's DocuWeek Documentary Showcase! which helps qualify documentaries for Oscar® consideration. She was also selected as a Filmmaking Fellow for Jehane Noujaim's global, Pangea Day . Senain serves on the Board of Advisors for Cine, a theater in her hometown of Athens, Georgia and has served on the Artistic Board of L.A. art festival, ArtWallah. Senain is currently working on a series of short films entitled DAY AT THE BEACH, commissioned by Cinelan, a company started by Morgan Spurlock (writer/director/producer of SUPER SIZE ME) and consulting on several projects including Ross Kauffman's WAIT FOR ME. She is also developing a docume! ntary about the current state of affairs in Pakistan. Senain recently taught a documentary filmmaking workshop at Emory University and frequently speaks on panels and conducts workshops on ways to incorporate social justice engagement through documentary filmmaking. Her keen interest in exploring religious and cultural conflict, human rights, and interfaith dialogue through film and media inspired her to makePROJECT KASHMIR.

GEETA V. PATEL, Director/Producer

Geeta V. Patel is an Indian-American writer and director for both documentary and dramatic feature films. While Associate Screenwriter for film and television projects with Disney, Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, ABC, NBC, and Twentieth Century Fox, Geeta worked on major motion pictures including THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, BLUE CRUSH, MINDHUNTERS and THE RUNDOWN. She was Associate Producer of ABC/Imagine's one-hour dramatic television series about journalism, THE BEAST, which was the first of many projects with her mentor, Emmy Award Winner, Kario Salem. Geeta was a Sundance Institute Directing Fellow where she participated in the Editing, Composer, and Producing Labs (2006) and a Tribeca All Access Directing Fellow (2005). She is a recipient of the prestigious Asia Society's Asia 21 Leadership Fellowship. She has served on the Nomination Committees for the Rockefeller Foundation/Renew Media's Media Arts Fellowship as well as the selection committee for the International Documentary Association's DocuWeek, a Documentary Showcase which helps qualify documentaries for Oscar® consideration. She is a Board Member for The Center for Multifaith Education in New York and has served as a member of the Artistic Board for L.A.-based art festival, Artwallah. Currently, Geeta is directing ONE IN A BILLION, a comedic feature documentary that follows an Indian-American actor/comedian as he struggles with his desire to marry an Indian woman and his inability to actually date one. She is also working on a dramatic feature, THE SPOON (CHAMCHA), a thriller about a son’s investigation of his father’s murder in a remote Indian village. Research for her first novel, THE LAUGHING, led Geeta to make the documentary PROJECT KASHMIR. Geeta is a Story Consultant on several feature and documentary films. She is a graduate of Duke University and studied in Berlin, where filmmaker Anthony Minghella inspired her to pursue a career in storytelling.
